Al Duhail SC clinched the 2023 Qatar Cup title with a convincing 2-0 victory over Al Saad at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Qatar on Thursday night. Kenyan international Michael Olunga played a pivotal role in the win, opening the scoring for The Red Knights in the 48th minute.
Olunga received an excellent cross from Tunisian international Ferjan Sassi, which he finished off neatly from just inside the 18-yard box. He then turned provider five minutes later, sweeping home an Al Moeez Ali deflected cross to secure Al Duhail’s victory.

After the full-time whistle, H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, presented the trophy to Al Duhail captain Al Moeez Ali and honored the players and officials of both teams.
Speaking to The Peninsula Qatar post-match, Al Moeez Ali stated that winning the Qatar Cup was a great honor and that the team played fantastically throughout the match. He also confirmed that their focus is now on completing the set of four trophies this season.
This win marked Al Duhail’s second trophy within a week, following their Ooredoo Cup triumph last Saturday. Olunga, who won the golden boot with ten goals, was instrumental in these victories. This year’s Qatar Cup victory was particularly special for Al Duhail as it was their first triumph since 2018.
The team will now turn their attention to the quarter-finals of the Amir Cup, where they are set to face Al Sailiya on Monday. Olunga, who bagged two goals in the Qatar Cup tournament, finished as the competition’s top scorer. All in all, it looks like a very promising season for Al Duhail.
