Brighton vs Manchester United FA Cup Semi Preview

Brighton is currently experiencing an unforgettable season, having qualified for the FA Cup semi-finals for the second time in five seasons.

The Seagulls are determined to achieve a better outcome this year, after their hopes were dashed in 2018/19 by Manchester City. Unfortunately for them, they will have to overcome their city rivals, Manchester United, to reach the final.

Roberto De Zerbi’s team, who have lost only one of their last nine matches in all competitions (W6, D2), have no reason to be intimidated. They have scored five goals on two separate occasions during their impressive run to the semi-finals, and even eliminated holders Liverpool.

If they win this match, they will secure a spot in their second-ever FA Cup final, the first since 1983, where they lost to United.

Manchester United suffered a crushing 3-0 defeat at the hands of Sevilla in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday. Coach Erik ten Hag hopes that their confidence has not been rocked by this loss. Despite the setback, a second trip to Wembley presents the perfect opportunity to bounce back from their recent defeat.

United has already tasted success at Wembley this season, winning the Carabao Cup by defeating Newcastle in the final. The FA Cup is a competition that is very important to them, as they have won it 12 times in total, a number bettered only by Arsenal.

However, their recent track record in this tournament has not been great, with only one win in the last 19 years.

Players to watch out for include Danny Welbeck, who may lead the line for Brighton in place of the injured Evan Ferguson. Welbeck, a former United player, has a history of scoring against his old club, including the winning goal in an FA Cup match during his time at Arsenal.

Bruno Fernandes, who missed United’s last match due to suspension, could also be a key player for United. He has directly contributed to six goals in as many head-to-head matches against Brighton (four goals, two assists).

Manchester United’s victory march in this season’s FA Cup has seen them win all four of their matches so far by a margin of 3-1.
