Probe Concluded into Jeff Mwathi’s Death

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has concluded an investigation into the disputed death of Jeff Mwathi, a 23-year-old interior designer who passed away under unclear circumstances in February.

The Homicide department, which has been leading the investigations, received an autopsy report from the government Pathologist and Chemist, following a fresh inquiry into the matter as directed by the DCI Director, Mr Mohamed Amin.

The detectives confirmed that they had submitted the report to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), seeking further guidance.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has completed its inquiry into the death of Jeff Mwathi, which occurred on 22nd February 2023 under ambiguous circumstances…The case file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for review and legal counsel,” DCI announced on Twitter.

To establish the cause of Mwathi’s death and determine whether any toxic substances, including alcohol, contributed to his demise, the sleuths carried out a fresh autopsy and obtained toxicological samples.

Moreover, DNA was collected from the deceased and the individuals of interest to compare and verify allegations of sexual abuse before the incident.

Additionally, forensic analysis of CCTV footage and cyber data was done for a comprehensive investigation.

Mugithi Star DJ Fatxo was at the center of the controversy relating to the death following the incident that occurred in his apartment in Kasarani, Nairobi. However, both he and the two individuals who were present denied involvement in Mwathi’s passing.

Mwathi’s family rejected the suicide theory provided and called for a thorough investigation. The post-mortem report revealed that he succumbed to acute trauma resulting from multiple head and limb injuries.

The investigators have assured the public that they will conduct a rigorous investigation to ensure justice for Jeff, and anyone found culpable will face accountability.
