Kenyan Soldiers in DRC to Stay Longer for Peacekeeping | EACRF Deployment

Kenyan soldiers, who were sent to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) under the East African Community Force (EACRF), will stay in the country for a longer period of time. Moreover, they will be living in North Kivu province following the extension of the service period of the force. KDF soldiers were deployed under the EACRF in November 2022 to support the restoration of peace and stability in Eastern DRC.

In the area, more than 120 armed groups have been fighting, forcing thousands of residents to leave their homes, and resulting in loss of lives.

Initially, the force was supposed to intervene for a period of six months under regular reviews to monitor whether it is achieving the expected stage of restoring normalcy. The DRC had the option of extending the contract for another six months.

However, the deployment of KDF came about two months after the East African Community and the DRC government signed an Agreement with the Armed Forces (SOFA) on September 8.
