On Friday night, a tragic incident occurred at a pizza eatery in Kitengela where a young woman was brutally stabbed to death by her former lover. The man, identified as Patrick Munyoki Kioko, age 25, had worked alongside Gertrude Wayua Mutiso, age 22, at the pizza outlet before the fateful incident.
According to detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Kioko confessed to killing Ms Wayua due to jealousy after discovering that she was dating their boss. The deceased had ended their relationship five months earlier because Kioko had a stammer, but he remained infatuated with her.
“This woman was my everything – I even took her virginity. When I found out about her new relationship, it hurt me more than anything ever could,” Kioko told detectives during questioning.
Detectives also discovered that Kioko had made several threats towards Ms Wayua before the attack occurred. She had even contacted her senior police officer father in Kiambu hours before the incident to report Kioko’s behavior.
Tragically, Ms Wayua was serving customers when Kioko arrived at the restaurant and stabbed her multiple times, leaving her in a pool of blood. Despite attempts to save her life, she succumbed to her injuries.
Kioko was apprehended by a mob and beaten before the police took him into custody. He is currently recovering from his injuries and will appear in court today. The police are seeking a 14-day detention order to complete their investigation into the murder.
The brutal murder of Gertrude Wayua Mutiso is a shocking reminder of the dangers of jealousy and obsession in relationships. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.
