Mesut Ozil, the former Arsenal, Real Madrid, and Germany midfielder has announced his retirement from football at the age of 34.
During his club career, Ozil won nine titles including four FA Cups and the 2012 La Liga title in Spain.
He also represented Germany in 92 matches and was a part of the team that lifted the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
“Incredible journey full of unforgettable moments and emotions,” Ozil said in a social media statement.
“I have been a professional footballer for almost 17 years now and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity. But in recent weeks and months, following injuries, it has become clear that now is the time to step away from the big stage of football.”
