Murder Mystery Unraveled: Boyfriend Arrested for Killing Cashier in Kiambu

On April 18, 2023, the lifeless body of Ryspa Ndunge was discovered in a suitcase outside a rental building in Ruiru, Kiambu County. The discovery shocked the area and prompted detectives to begin an investigation into the murder.

CCTV footage was obtained by the detectives, which is crucial to uncovering the mystery of the young woman’s death.

Ryspa Ndunge was a cashier at a busy nyama choma eatery located at Kamakis along the Eastern bypass. She had moved in with her boyfriend Morris Njuguna, a chef at the same establishment, barely five months ago.

However, due to the nature of their duties, Morris would be the first to arrive home before 10pm, while Ryspa would be dropped home later in the early hours of the morning at around 3am. This caused suspicion and constant arguments in their relationship as Morris believed that Ryspa was involved in suspicious activities during her time alone.

On April 17, 2023, the argument between Morris and Ryspa degenerated into a fight leading to Ryspa’s death after she arrived home past 3am. Morris then left for work the next morning and informed his colleagues that Ryspa had quit her job and they would be moving out of their house to an unspecified location.

On the same evening, Morris returned home with a sack that he had bought earlier in the day. He placed Ryspa’s body into a suitcase and covered it with the sack. Morris then disguised the suitcase as his luggage and carried it outside to dispose of it near a rental building a kilometer away.

After the discovery of Ryspa’s body, the landlord of the rental building reported it to the Gatongora police station. Detectives from DCI Ruiru began investigating the case and arrested Morris three days later on April 21, 2023.

Statements were taken from various witnesses, and a second suspect, Francis Chege, 32, was arrested in Mukuyu, Murang’a County, for being in possession of Ryspa’s phone. Francis, who is Morris’ cousin, claimed that Morris had given him the phone. Morris led detectives to the shop where he had bought the sack used to hide Ryspa’s body.

Morris Njuguna is currently in custody while detectives finalize their investigation into this heinous murder before charging him with murder under section 203 as read with section 204 of the penal code. The mysterious death of Ryspa Ndunge has left the community in shock, and justice must be served for her tragic death.
