Pochettino to Chelsea, Nagelsmann to Spurs?

As of 2019, Tottenham ended the season without any trophies, but their Champions League run gave fans hope. Despite losing to Liverpool in the final, the Spurs had an impressive journey, finishing second to Barcelona in the group stage and eliminating Dortmund, Manchester City, and Ajax along the way.

Mauricio Pochettino, their coach at the time, spent five seasons with the club and is held in high regard by supporters.

Recently, British media outlets such as The Guardian and Daily Mail have reported that Pochettino is likely to accept a job offer from their London rivals, Chelsea. This news comes after Julian Nagelsmann turned down the role, leaving the path clear for Pochettino to take over the Blues.

After sacking Graham Potter, Chelsea’s owners and sporting directors compiled a list of potential candidates, which they eventually narrowed down to four: Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino, Vincent Company, and Luis Enrique.

However, Enrique is no longer in the running, and Nagelsmann pulled out when he learned that his job application was not a formality.

It’s worth noting that Pochettino was not considered as a potential candidate for the recently-vacant Tottenham managerial position, despite his success with the club in the past. However, Nagelsmann may yet return to London, this time to manage Tottenham.

Vincent Company is currently the bookies’ favorite for the Chelsea job, but former Bayern Munich coach, Hansi Flick is now in second place. Other contenders for Tottenham include Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter, and Arne Slot.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has come under pressure to make a strong appointment following a humiliating loss to Newcastle United, a direct rival for a Champions League spot, where they lost 6-1.
