Sudanese leaders hold talks on militia control

Military and civilian political leaders in Sudan have begun talks in Khartoum regarding placing government-backed militia, RSF, under military control. These were crucial demands of the civil groups that helped overthrow President Omar al-Bashir in 2019.

Sunday’s talks were part of an agreement signed in December aimed at paving the way for the return of democratic rule and are set to be officially implemented within two weeks.

Head of the military, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who took power in the coup two years ago, said he wants to end military forces supporting dictatorial governments in Sudan.
